Perhaps the most dramatic of all the additional
information we received was a link to a series of photographs
showing the aging process of an injury to the face of a boxer.
Several CI's have written asking for just such an example. But
keep in mind all the caveats about the many variables that could
affect coloration: age, medications, health, etc. (By the way,
because of all the pictures, it takes a few seconds for this
page to completely load, even with a highspeed connection.)
Another very useful link is to a set of
algorithms designed
to help medical professionals analyze a variety of medical conditions.
Merrian-Webster's Dictionary defines an algorithm as:
a step-by-step procedure for solving
a problem or accomplishing some end...
The algorithm related to bruising is the
13th entry on the page. You will also find many other interesting
entries that might be useful.
One Investigator wrote the following:
I was a nurse in New York State and they
had a program that all licensed professionals were mandated to
take in order to accurately identify cases of abuse and neglect.
It is a wonderful course and had an extensive section on identifying
aging bruises. This is the address of the site where these providers
who teach this course may be found: http://www.op.nysed.gov/caproviders.htm.
Finally we received an additional link
which provides a faily comprehensive discussion of the organic
causes and treatment of bruises. The WEB site itself, HealthAtoZ,
is an especially useful location for a wide variety of medical
information.
