Recognizing When a Child's Injury or Illness is Cause by Abuse

The Federal Justice Department's Office of Juvenile Justice and Deliquency Program (OJJDP) has place an extremely useful document on the WEB: Recognizing When a Child's Injury or Illness Is Caused by Abuse. The document title suggests that the material might only be useful in child abuse cases. However, the information has much general applicability when dealing with all sorts of investigations under the IM Bulletin. For example, the section on bruises contains much useful information on such topics as: the dating of bruises; bruise configurations; natural bruising. That material applies to injuries that any victim might suffer.

The following is the Table of Contents, with links to each topic.
